STOP is London's first dedicated school of Theatre of the Oppressed. A training ground for catalysing social, personal and political change through theatre.

"Empathy is the most powerful weapon."

- Augusto Boal, Theatre of the Oppressed

Headed by Adrian Jackson, founding Artistic Director of Cardboard Citizens and Boal’s English translator and frequent collaborator, STOP is for activists, actors, facilitators, communities, academics, those who work with young people or marginalised groups, people working in areas of social inclusion or international development - anyone interested in using theatre as a force for change. All are welcome.

"Adrian is an excellent teacher and facilitator. He led with much clarity and sensitivity. He took time to listen to participants in sessions and is always willing to evolve with the group as the dynamic flowed. All participants felt the sessions have been useful despite their varying level of experience in Theatre of the Oppressed"

Joyce Nga Yu Lee (Artistic Director, Mind the Gap)

"Being trained by Adrian Jackson was transformative for SAFE's work. Forum theatre has subsequently become a powerful and essential component of our social change programmes. Adrian's brilliant teaching opened the potential of this complex but highly effective form of theatre, and inspired us all."

- Nick Reding, Founder and Creative Director S.A.F.E.

What People Say About Us

“I struggled to apply the Theatre of the Oppressed methods in my role as a nurse educator. Adrian and Terry shared their wealth of experience with passion through inspiring workshops, making Theatre of the Oppressed accessible and applicable to people with a non-theatre background.”

- James Wilson, Senior Lecturer, Registered Mental Health Nurse & National Teaching Fellow.

"Adrian contributed to us - Palestinians and Israelis - his wisdom and experience, in one of our most vulnerable dramatic moments: he generously offered his brilliant skills as a "neutral joker" and supported us in shaping and applying TO for both reconciliation/humanization, and strategizing our joint non-violent struggle."

- Chen Alon, Nour Shehada, Co-founders, Combatants for Peace

"It is forbidden to walk on the grass. It is not forbidden to fly over the grass."

- Augusto Boal
